ABOUT OUTERWEAR
Outerwear is a seasonal category under Dillard's that has a separate floorset for three of the private label brands: RTY, Murano, and Cremieux. I led the creative revamp of the outerwear category by redefining visual identity, design direction, and product association by modernizing silhouettes, color palettes, and materials. Though I was the sole designer for this area, I collaborated closely with each brand's designers to ensure cohesivity.
For this category, the design process is a hybrid of end-to-end production and partial process, however, I altered every style to fit my design direction for each brand's consumer profile. Each brand delivered product each month of the fall season. Technically we worked on an 8 month timing and action calendar, however, I made sure to stay ahead of the timeline since coats and jackets have more make. All fabric selection, trim development, artwork direction, sample evaluation, and overseas communications are also executed by me.
Trend & Color
When designing Outerwear, it was important to me to use a version of each brand's existing color palette for the season. I selected colors that were commercially appropriate for outerwear aesthetics and skewed some colors within the same tone range as needed.
For me, the design boards needed to reflect the color palette direction while emulating the target customer and, at the same time, show styles and fabric I intended to use as design inspiration.
Tech Packs
Executing technical packages and fits with increased trims and construction was an fascinating experience. I enjoyed the level of attention to detail it required. I enjoyed the thoughtfulness of functionality and end use that designing outerwear required.
